1. There’s a new lulu short called Run: Track Attack. FINALLY, a place to put my ginormous phone!

I have no idea if it’s actually comfortable to have a smart phone banging against your leg on a run—or if it’s good for the phone, for that matter.

But this is a major dilemma of mine: how to take my phone with me on runs without wearing some clunky extra gear. Do I have my solution??

2. Cooking good salmon is not just for chefs.

I’m generally kind of scared to cook fish, but this was a huge confidence booster.

My fish used to always come out kinda dry and fishy-smelling, until I learned that the fishy smell indicates that it’s overcooked. Which is about the only thing you can do to mess up fish. OH!

3. I suck at buying Ziploc bags.

Exhibit A:

Wanted gallon Ziplocks, came home to discover I’d gotten TWO GALLON Ziplocks. That’s what happens when your kid is melting down because the cart has stopped moving for .02 seconds. You see the word “gallon” out of the corner of your eye, make a rash decision, and live to regret it.

What am I going to do with these monsters?

Exhibit B:

The fact that these have a picture of a zip-top bag ON THE BOX suggest to me that that’s what’s IN THE BOX.

But that would be wrong. It’s just the weak little fold-over sandwich bags.

I’ve done this twice now.

4. Marshall’s makes some pretty decent workout gear for cheap.

Please disregard the shoulder photo-bomb, poor representation of color (it’s a prettier turquoise than that), and sweaty stomach. I really go above and beyond for this blog, don’t I?

(P.S. To those of you who know about my 2-month new-clothes-buying restriction: don’t worry, I bought this shirt awhile ago!)

5. Dealing with shoelaces that are way too long is not worth the hassle.

I always thought the black laces on my Mizunos looked extra-tough, so I didn’t want to part with them. Instead, I spent day after day double-knotting them and then stuffing the bows into the laces.

This ends now. (But only because I’m getting new shoes. Ha. Laziness for the win.)

6. We have entered the very-frequent-baths stage of parenthood.

Purees were never this messy. What was I thinking when I said I was excited about this??

He has two main ways of indicating that mealtime is over: spiking food on the floor and smearing it in his hair. I taught him sign language for “all done,” but he thinks that’s just a fun game to be used throughout mealtime to get a major positive reaction from Mom.

7. Knives are sharp.

I was cutting blocks of tofu with a butcher knife when, suddenly, Mason heard the S word for the first time.

We spent two days considering getting stitches before settling on the “eh…it looks ok” approach.

8. These should never be purchased again. (I’ve proven I can’t be trusted around them.)

So, so good. They lasted maybe 3 days, and not a single one made it to becoming an actual cookie.

9. Blue and green look good together.

Good thinking, God!

10. Being a stay-at-home mom suddenly becomes a lot more awesome when it’s beautiful out.

Hey, everything has its perks.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I so agree with you on how much more awesome being a stay at home mom is when the sun is out! We have so much fun playing outside and going to outdoor parks but I get so bored when stuck inside!
Love those shorts!

Just found your blog from your feature on Mom’s Little Running Buddy.

Love #6! My 1-year-old is currently tossing/swiping her food off her tray (our dog loves it!), as well as using it as styling product for her hair. And don’t you just love cutting everything up into bite-sized pieces?! I forgot what a pain this was between my girls. Just wait until your little darling wants to use utensils on his own. That’s a whole ‘nother mess! Happy Mother’s Day!

I feel like there’s always something in the near future to be terrified about with kids. :)

Thanks for stopping by, Nicole, and Happy Mother’s Day to you too!!

I feel like we may kindred spirits. I always buy the wrong size Ziploc without fail. I also have a little boy, though he is now 10! At least the messes have calmed down. Knives+me=big no no, I will always hurt myself. And shoelaces and I do not get along. They just always come undone or are too tight or something is wrong with them!

Yep, we’re basically the same person. :) I blame the Ziploc marketing team, not us, for all the mistakes. Obviously something’s going wrong over there. I’m so excited to hear that the messes do one day calm down. :)

Lulu also has the beach runner crop, I haven’t tried them on but they have giant pockets too:

Awwwesome, thanks for the heads up! I wonder if it looks weird when you have a massive smart phone jutting off your thigh? Oh well, I guess that’s not the point. :)

Kim May 10, 2013 at 11:16 am

I do like the zipper on the short, though. Don’t want that thing bouncing out of there. :)

Kelly May 10, 2013 at 8:23 am

Salmon is definitely the easiest fish to cook. I am not a confident fish cooker either, but I feel like when I make salmon it always comes out better than any other type of fish I’ve tried

Hoooray for sunshine!! ….ok well not today though :/

You’re probably right–I’m sure I’d still botch any other kind of fish. But I do a nice frozen fish stick. :)

80’s next week!!! You ready??

Katie @ running4cupcakes May 10, 2013 at 8:07 am

Luke does the same thing when he is done. . .food gets thrown over the edge or fed to the puppy. . . oops there goes a banana chunk now!

Kim May 10, 2013 at 9:48 am

We need a puppy. :)

Presley @ Run Pretty May 10, 2013 at 8:00 am

Huge pockets for the win! haha My biggest clothing pet peeve is “fake” pockets. WHY? Half my dress pants are like that. Ugh. Okay, I’ll quit ranting now.

I know what you mean! But I hate it even more when you can see gigantic bulky pockets through tight dress pants. :)

Kim May 10, 2013 at 6:51 am

The bag buying makes me laugh – probably because I do that kind of thing, too!
Love the picture of your cutie in the swing!!! And, you’re right for sure – staying home with the kids is much better/more fun when you can get outside!!!

Kim May 10, 2013 at 9:46 am

I want to talk to the person who does the box designs for Ziploc. I have some input.

Sarah @ PickyRunner May 10, 2013 at 6:28 am

Wait what are those cookie things? Now I am going to TJ’s to buy some. Individually wrapped cookie dough? GENIUS. Too bad it just means more effort for me when I eat 30 in a row…I’ve totally done that with the plastic bags before. It happens.
Sarah @ PickyRunner recently posted…So much to do…My Profile

Kim May 10, 2013 at 9:45 am

Nope, not individually wrapped–you can still easily access 30 at once. :)

I’m so sick of plastic bag drama in my life!
