11 Things

by Kim on April 10, 2013

This is LONG overdue, and I feel like kind of a jerk about it.

A couple months (gulp) ago, something called the Liebster Award was making its away around the blogosphere. Basically, it’s a survey designed to help introduce newer bloggers to the world.

Liebster

I was nominated for the award by a couple different people, including Lisa, Renee, and Kary (thank you, ladies!!), but I put off writing the actual post because I thought, “who wants to hear a bunch of random, boring info about me?? Yuck!”

Eventually, I realized: wait, I like reading these things on other people’s blogs. I like learning random facts about other people, because inevitably there’s some weird thing they’re into that I’m also into (even though I was positive I was the only one), and then we become BFFs for life and our kids marry each other and we end up as spitfire grandma roomies in the same nursing home. (I envision it being like College Part II, just with warm milk instead of beer and large-print Chicken Soup books instead of textbooks…)

No?

Anyway.

So the format of the Liebster is: write 11 random facts about yourself, then answer the questions posed by the person who nominated you. (You’re also supposed to nominate other bloggers and pose questions for them, but I’m so late on this that I’m afraid other bloggers might punch me in the face for bringing it up again.)

11 Random Facts About Me

Here are the first 10. I pretty recently gave my About Me page a makeover, and I happened to do it in the “random facts” style. Seems like fate.

Now for one more…

#11: When I was in middle school, and The Babysitters’ Club books were mega hot, the girls in my neighborhood and I decided to start our own babysitters’ club. Obviously, the first step was to assign roles: president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. Another girl and I were both vying for president, so to make the final pick, we decided to go outside and see who could yell the loudest.

At the time, I thought this was kind of ridiculous (probably partially because she won). But now, considering the leaders I’ve known or seen over the years, I think we were on to something.

(Fine, that wasn’t a fact. But “I’m a Taurus” just didn’t sound nearly as interesting.)

Now. Since I was nominated by a couple different people, I’m just going to pick one set of questions to answer. Here are Lisa’s:

1. How did you meet your spouse/significant other? We met through a mutual friend in college. What’s weird is that we grew up in the same hometown, but never met until we left (to attend different colleges in different states).

2. What’s your favorite place to vacation? Anywhere with a beach. I’m a little bit obsessed with beaches. Mexico is a favorite, but I’ve also been itching to revisit Miami and Cali.

3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A teacher. And briefly, when Space Camp came out, an astronaut. (Right??)

4. Snow: Love it or hate it? HAAAATE it. I’ve been meaning to force myself to get into some snow-related sport, like snowboarding, just so I’d have something to look forward to when the snow hits.

5. Favorite movie? Everyone makes fun of me, but I love the movie Blue Crush. It just makes me feel good every time I watch it. (It also coincides with my obsession with beaches and the surfing culture.)

6. Favorite TV show? Right now, I’m loving Smash. I was a big theater/singing junkie in high school, so it appeals to that (now super repressed) side of me. I also love Parenthood and Parks & Recreation, off the top of my head.

7. Favorite blog? No way I can pick one! Here’s a list of my current favs.

8. Where did/do you go to college and what made you decide on that particular school? I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I transferred there from a small liberal arts college after my freshman year, once I realized I wanted the more big school, ra-ra college experience. I regretted missing out on my freshman year there (most of the kids had their friend groups pretty well established by sophomore year, from living in the dorms), but otherwise, it was a great decision.

9. What do you do for a living? I’m a stay-at-home mom and a freelance writer. For now. I daydream about new careers all the time (but that might just be a side-effect of the whole SAHM thing—it ain’t easy, kids).

10. Opinion on reality TV? Generally not a fan, but I can get sucked into it now and then. Full disclosure: I have an episode of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami on the DVR as I write this. (It’s the one where she announces she’s pregnant, aka D-R-A-M-A! I can’t miss that.)

11. Do you prefer going to the gym or working out at home? Running outside trumps both of those, but I’ve been pretty happy working out at home lately (so grateful for our treadmill!). The gym is awesome for classes, though—home videos just aren’t the same.

So there you go! So much more than you ever cared to know about me. Thanks again for the nominations, Lisa, Renee, and Kary, and my apologies for my super delayed response!!

Can you relate to any of the random stuff here? Aka are you my new BFF??

I always love these kinds of posts, I love learning new things about bloggers I follow. I always crack up when I get to know more about bloggers because it makes me feel like I actually know them lol.
I actually met my boyfriend/hubby-to-be back in high school and we’ve been best friends ever since.

That’s awesome!! Pretty handy for holidays and stuff when you have the same hometown to go back to, too. :)

I love these posts, too.

The episode is so scripted it’s painful! But of course I still watched every second.

Life without cable??? Wow! You must, like, get stuff done! :)

LOL! I totally love your grandma roomies thing! Made me literally laugh outloud:) I love connecting with people online, so fun! My hubs and I wwent to the same, small catholic HS and then didn’t meet until college. Kind of weird to think we passed eacho other in the halls, but didn’t know it! I was a freshman and he was a senior so that partially explains it:) I also transfered b/t my fresh and soph years of college from Syracuse to UNH. So random and similiar cool! Now we can be toothless roommates one day! haha!

Haha that’s crazy that you two even went to the same HS! My husband and I didn’t, but we had mutual friends in HS, so we’re pretty sure we must have been at some of the same parties. Crazy how life works, right?

So excited to be toothless roomies someday!! ;)
