Hi there! So I’m (finally) here to share some pics from our waterpark weekend.
But I warn you: they’re bad. An indoor waterpark = lots of movement, poor lighting, and places you probably wouldn’t want to be casually carrying your expensive phone. Bear with me.
We stayed at a Roman-themed resort, as you can tell from the breathtaking “scenery” on our hotel room wall.
Those headboards? Totally painted on.
Mason made himself right at home with a hot meal and some PBS Kids. (The two together = a rare treat that, turns out, leads to lots of watching and very little eating.)
I was never so thankful for a hotel room with a microwave and mini fridge. When you have a kid with a bazillion food allergies, you can’t just roll up to a McDonalds in a pinch. (Not that I would…OR WOULD I? We’ll never know.)
Since Mase slept in the car on the way up, we went all in and headed straight to the waterpark after lunch, watching naptime come and go. The kid was a champ!
It took him awhile to warm up to the whole water thing, but once he got comfortable, he was unstoppable. We took him on the biggest waterslides in the place and he giggled the whole way down. At the bottom, he immediately started pointing up at the slides and asking to go again.
Here is one of the very few pictures that didn’t turn out totally blurry (the “deep in conversation” shot):
And another one!
These, well…let’s just say I shrunk them down on purpose.
Later, after a failed nap attempt (surprise surprise), I dragged everybody to the outlet mall for my idea of a good time. Mason spent a solid half hour in the Disney store, examining every inch of the Cars display and befriending one of the sales associates.
Then, I bought him some jeans from Oshkosh that the receipt later told me were girl jeans. Oops. Don’t tell him. (I still can’t tell the difference.)
We hit up a pizza place for dinner (after Mase’s microwaved hotel room meal—poor kid) and then possibly the best thing about the whole trip happened: Mason went to sleep in his Pack N’ Play without a peep AND SLEPT UNTIL 8:45 AM! That’s outrageous even by home standards. Best vacation gift ever.
We swung by the waterpark one more time before heading home, and then I spent the rest of the day doing laundry. (That’s what it felt like anyway.) The end!
So tomorrow’s a big day for us…Mason’s getting tubes placed in his ears. I totally have Katie to thank for this—without her expert doctorly advice, I might never have taken him in for a hearing test (“I think he hears fine!”) and we would have never found out that he’s suffering some hearing loss, which may be related to his speech delays.
It’s just a minor outpatient surgery, but there is some anesthesia involved, and we’ll have to keep him NPO until the 8:30 surgery time. (Definitely the part I’m most worried about…kid loves his morning oatmeal!)
Hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow with a story about a super easy experience and a happy, better-hearing toddler!
In the meantime, who else is a lifelong Babysitters Club devotee? I couldn’t help laughing at this ranking of memorable BC outfits.
At first, I was (understandably) offended—you DO NOT make fun of the BC. But then I took a close look at some of those outfits and, well…they have a point.
The rolled-up jeans/oversized sweater thing:
The brown old-man-pants and thick-striped shirt?
This sweater…WHAT is that yellow thing?
Wait: I was probably wearing a scrunchie and one of those plastic clips that keeps your shirt bunched up on one side while reading those books. Nevermind.
That’s it for me. Goodnight!
P.S. I have two—TWO—giveaways going up this week! Stay tuned!
