Let’s kick this off with the most important information first: my vacation countdown. (I know that’s what you came here to read about.)
In 8 days, this will be me:
Wait, no, that’s the wrong image. Here we go:
8 days until I’ll be on a *real* beach (including waves and salt water, as opposed to the suspended-algae-filled faux lake beaches I’ve been talking about here). 8 days to beachy smells, seagulls, and sand in everything. 8 days to fresh seafood.
And of course…8 days until I board a plane with a 16-month-old. I try not to think about that part.
Since I only have one more week to put the finishing touches on my beach-ready bod (HAHAHA), I thought it’d be fun to do a little workout challenge. THEN, in an uncanny twist of fate, PicMonkey even released some sweet school-themed décor for me to use for it.
Introducing: Power Week.

I’m assuming you’re familiar with most of these exercises, but there’s a bit of variation in the way people do weighted squats. Here’s what I like to do: squat down with a pair of hand weights, holding them in one of two ways…
Then, I rise all the way up onto my toes, straightening my arms with the weights over my head. And repeat!
So here we go! Not quite as much fun as a power hour, maybe, but just as rewarding, right??
Anyway, it’s Monday, so I should probably tell you about my weekend! Brent’s parents were visiting, which somehow resulted in both a very relaxing and very productive weekend. Random household things were cleaned or fixed, walks were taken, garage sales were hit (I got a pair of water shoes for Mase for $1—perfect timing!), food was grilled, and movies were watched.
Here’s some of the evidence:
Hanging with Grandma…

The hiiiills are aliiiiiive…
Grillin and chillin…
After the in-laws headed home yesterday, I put up my feet and did a little NASM studying.
Since several of you have expressed interest in hearing about my personal training education, I’m going to start sharing some of the stuff I’m learning here on the blog.
So far, it’s mostly been a biology lesson on steroids—which is pretty interesting, when I’m not drowning in all the complex latin-centric terminology, but I’m really looking forward to getting into the actual meat of how to train someone. Stay tuned!
Are you as much of a beach freak as I am?
Any tips for flying with a 16-month-old?
Who’s up for Power Week??
