Hey everyone! What are you up to this weekend?

My hubby and mom are doing a changing of the guard–he’s leaving for an out-of-town bachelor party, and she’s coming into town to hang with Mase and I and to attend a family friend’s bridal shower.

I love when my mom visits–obviously, for one, because it’s my mom–but also because it forces me to not spend the weekend doing a bazillion things around the house or on the computer. Sweet freedom from busyness!

This afternoon is Brent’s company picnic at the company he just started working for last week. I’m excited to see the place and–more importantly–to go to town on their menu. (Grilled meat, fruit, and something about “brownies a la mode”…yeah, I’m in.)

But before I get to that, I wanted to stop by and share some of my favorite things from this week.

My first prenatal fitness class!

At first, I was bummed out by a bunch of last-minute cancellations that came in. What was supposed to be a class of around 10 got reduced to 4 in the week leading up to the first class, and then 2 people couldn’t make it last night, so there ended up being only 3 of us!

Haha–that’s definitely not us, but I didn’t remember to get any pictures (standard) and I thought you might appreciate a visual of what 3 pregnant chicks looks like.

Despite the tiny group, we still had a great time. I told myself that it was still two people more than I usually got to work out with, and I was still gaining valuable experience as an instructor.

The PiYo intro was decent–I did get off track at one point and didn’t cue as well as I would have liked to, but was still pretty happy with it for a first try!

We got through some tough lower body work without a hitch, and THEN, as we were getting ready to go into arms, I realized that there were ZERO dumbbells in the entire studio that were under 10 lbs! (The workout I’d written required 5’s and 3’s.) It had never even occurred to me to check the dumbbell availability, since there was a gigantic rack of them.

So I ended up having to cobble something together on the spot, using resistance bands, 10 lb. dumbbells, and bodyweight. (The girls weren’t too pumped about the tricep push-ups they ended up having to do…)

Outside of that little slip (lesson learned: always check equipment!!), the class was great and we all left feeling sweaty and accomplished. We also had a great discussion about the benefits of working out while you’re preggo, what’s safe and what’s not, and common myths about prenatal fitness.

Next week, I’m hoping to meet in a park for a barre-inspired workout using park benches! I’ll let ya know how it goes. :)

My friend Jenny introduced us, and I’m head over heels in love. Kale, wild rice, apples, cranberries, sliced almonds, goat cheese, and homemade honey-balsamic vinaigrette–I MEAN.

–A new opportunity

I’ve been invited to join the team at Madison Moms Blog, a local blog that aims to connect moms and share info and ideas, including recipes and things to do with the kiddos.

Starting this fall, I’m going to be writing fitness-related posts for them–so pumped!!

Chandelier by Sia. I’ve been listening to it on repeat basically all week long at work.

Not only do I love the song, but the dance in the video (performed by 11-year-old Maddie Ziegler from Dance Moms) is insane. Kinda weird at first, but the more I watch it, the more amazed I am by the choreography.

–The name game

We’re getting closer to picking a name for kiddo #2…a few weeks ago, I would have said we were decided, but now I’m waffling a little. I’m guessing we won’t be 100% until D-day.

Speaking of baby preparation…we still have a LOT of work to do. As in, like, almost all of it.

Even Brent said something like “I’d feel better if I could at least assemble a few things…”–which made me realize how dire the situation truly was. I mean, if he’s the motivated one??

Nah, I’ll spare you.

Simple, effective, equipment-free AND preggo-safe. That’s a quadruple win in my book.

–House of Cards

We just finished season 2, which means we’re officially out of episodes for now. I’m depressed!! That was OUR SHOW!

It’s funny, too, because I hate almost every single character in the show, plus I hate the dirtiness of politics, and yet I somehow still love the show. What gives?

I would’ve been at your class! Don’t worry- I’m sure finding pregnant women who actually want to work out is hard enough.. and you find THREE!

We just finished House of Cards a couple weeks ago too. The knocking of the ring on the desk in the last second of the last episode – GAH! Netflix, hook us sisters up with the next season already! I bet your first class was ah-ma-zing; even with the two extra peeps! And that body workout looks fab!!!

Congrats on an awesome first prenatal class! So fun and exciting! If I was pregnant, I would go! Well, even if I wasn’t I would go :-) Sounds like you have a great weekend ahead of you!

We watch House of Cards too, and I have very similar feelings. How can I like a show so much when I think pretty much every character is a bad person? Still, can’t wait for season 3!

Happy Friday! My husband and I are just a few episodes into House of Cards season 2 and we love it! I’ve been working so much I’ve been falling asleep during the episodes, so I’m hoping we fit a few in this weekend. Do you watch Orange is the New Black? That one is just as good. Have a nice weekend!

Umm…that girl is 11?! Insane/Amazing. We just subscribed to Netflix so we could start watching Orange is the New Black and House of Cards!!

I’m so glad to hear your prenatal fitness class went so well! I can understand the discouragement that comes with cancellations, but I love what you said about it being two more people than you usually workout with AND another thing –> it’s two more people’s lives you get to change! ;)
