Friday five

by Kim on January 31, 2014

Hey friends! Just stopping in for a quick Friday funday post.

We have a fun weekend ahead: a baby shower, a welcome-home-from-the-military party for my little brother, and a Super Bowl party. Last night, in a total panic about the realization that I wouldn’t have any time to do my regular weekend chores over the weekend, I stayed up until midnight powering through 3 loads of laundry. (Shout out to the husband, who was pretty much forced to do the same thing.)

Being a stay-at-home mom was tough, but one undeniably awesome thing about it was that you could always throw in a load of laundry.

Anyway, today, I just thought I’d share a few things I liked this week, in one way or another.

This recipe:

mushroom and kale pasta

This was dinner a few nights ago and it turned out awesome! (Not a huge surprise since it involves butter and heavy cream, but anyway.) I used brown rice pasta instead of regular, and Brent couldn’t tell the difference. (Seriously, I might never buy regular pasta again. I’m just not sure about that gluten business…)

I also cracked a whole bottle of white wine for a 1/2 cup soooo…anyone want some leftover white? Please come over.

(The full story behind that is that I *tried* to buy a small bottle of cooking wine when I was getting the ingredients for this, but since it was after 9–literally, 9:05–when I checked out, they couldn’t sell me alcohol. Ha!)

This article. Change happens irregularly, over time, not instantly or perfectly.

Seriously, a must read.

This workout:

I did this two nights ago and yesterday I kept thinking, “why are my glutes so sore? (pause) Ohhh.”

I love how creative and full-bodied the moves are. I might have to borrow some of them for my repertoire…

These brownies:

fudgy brownies
A new Pinterest addition (pinned right after Giselle pinned it–thanks G!) that I’m eager to try but haven’t yet.

This outfit I was eyeballing at Target last night (in their massive clearance section going on right now!):

I’ve been loving blazers lately, but I wasn’t ready to commit to the stripes. What do you think, too much?

Bonus (because Friday Six didn’t have the same ring to it):

All of these insane interior design ideas

Like the bathroom with the open shaft under a glass floor:

Have a great weekend!

I feel like Tracy Anderson would make me cry. She is legit. haha I hope you ended up downing the bottle of wine. Kidding… But if we lived closer, I would have totally helped you.

I love the striped blazer – all of my blazers/jackets are solid and now I’m thinking I need a striped one!!!
Too bad we don’t live closer – I would totally help you out with the bottle of wine!!

I think I would break into a full-on sweat every time I walked into that bathroom and my stomach would sink (as the floor beneath me breaks and I die. Dramatic?? haha). I made some brownies the other week (from googling and finding them on a blog) and they turned out fantastic. The only thing holding me back from making more is the lack of chocolate chips in my house because brownies need double chocolate alllllll the time! haha

That sounds like a fun weekend! We are being boring and have absolutely no plans, so I’m a bit envious of all your fun!

I’ve bought a few blazers and I never wear them. As much as I think its a great idea, and they look cute in other people, i feel like a waiter at a fancy restaurant. I just can’t get comfortable in them!

Also, that pasta looks amazing, boo for butter and cream. And I have the same wine dilemma. I want wine, but I don’t want more than 1 jumbo glass (or two proper glasses) so I either open it, and have to have wine every night, which is wonderful and awful at the same time. or waste it (not happening). Or find friends (which really is the best option, but so hard on week nights!)
