Friday randomness

Hey guys!

It’s funny to me that my last post was called “Am I dead?”…and then I proceeded to take an even longer blogging break. So, alternative title for this post: “Am I sure I’m not dead?”

Still totally alive and totally swamped! But in a good way. I’m loving everything I’m doing right now. Here are a few quick updates…

–I have a pretty good rhythm going with the kiddos these days. Joshua is taking longer naps (HALLELUJAH), which has allowed me to carve out times of the day when I can almost-sort-of count on being free to do other work.

Don’t worry: I’ve also learned how to not stress when those plans get totally steamrolled. My #1 job is Mom—everything else is bonus.

–I officially took over my own class as a BodyFlow instructor on Wednesday!

Even though I’ve taught tons of times now, it totally got in my head that this was my “first real class,” and it somehow turned me into a big blob of nerves. Which led to me making a few mistakes in the class—none of them major, and only one noticeable to the class (because I started doing the wrong thing and had to completely redirect…oooops)—but still, I came home feeling a little defeated. (Thanks, perfectionism!)

It didn’t help that I’d accidentally, apparently, included the former (much loved) instructor’s favorite track in the class. Plus, there was a lady front and center who was so straight-faced the entire class that I decided she hated my guts. (Don’t worry, I know that was insecurity talking.)

On the way home, I gave myself a pep talk similar to the one the music teacher gives Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street: “Okay. Um…maybe try one…cooler…and faster…and LOUDER…and better…and less insecure, and more, just…cool.” (I really wanted to find a YouTube clip of it, but no dice. So hilarious.)

Luckily, I didn’t have to wait long to redeem myself. I subbed for another instructor the very next morning, and other than blasting everyone’s ears out with a weird stereo glitch at the beginning of class (so embarrassing, and possibly the least zen way to start a yoga class), the class went perfectly.

I can only go up from here right??

–The Fit Moms for Life group is going great! I ended up with a final group of 9 women, all of them very sweet and very motivated.

We’ve had two meetings so far: the first week, we took measurements, did a fitness test, and talked about what the next 6 weeks would look like. We also blasted through a 10-minute circuit workout I put together, rotating through 4 stations around the room. During meeting #2, we talked about goals and mindset, did a 20-minute video workout together (we were laughing the entire time for some reason) and watched an inspirational story from the program.

I’m really loving how plug-and-play the FM4L program is. My prep work is minimal, outside of maybe putting a playlist together for the workout and skimming over the homework and discussion questions before meetings. Other than that, I’m basically just popping in DVDs and locking the studio doors after class, haha.

(P.S. You could easily start a group in your area—check it out if you’re interested! Did I mention I get paid??)

–I’m about 4000% sure I would have blogged more this week if it hadn’t been for this magazine article I’m working on. I had to fit in 3 phone interviews, all strategically scheduled during dual-kid naptimes (no easy thing), and I’ve been frantically writing ever since.

That probably doesn’t sound very fun, but I promise I’m having a blast. It’s very exciting for me to break into magazine work, and it really feels like a dream come true. Just waiting for that phone call from Self…or no, make that Travel… (Please, please send me somewhere exotic for free…)

In the spirit of Friday, I’ll end with some completely random thoughts…

–I either love or hate this scarf/sleeves combo:

scarf sleeves

I think love, if only because I’m always freezing with my winter coat on and could use an extra arm layer under there. As for wearing it alone…I don’t know, too futuristic-looking??

–The hubby and I are obsessed with the new show Booze Traveler on the Travel Channel. So, so interesting! I promise you don’t even have to care about booze to like it.

–We’re going out for an extremely rare date night tonight. I cannot WAIT. On the menu at the steak house we’re going to: frog legs. To try or not to try??

–A Florida vacay in April means I need to start working on Mason’s summer wardrobe now. I always forget how much I LOVE preppy little boys’ summer clothes.

(And the two Lauren Conrad tops that sneaked into my cart…)

Have a great weekend!

My 10 month old has been a cat napper since birth, but she recently started taking longer naps in the afternoon- she had a 4 hour one the other day – and it’s AMAZING. Now, if she would sleep at night…

Have a great weekend!

I would LOVE to go to Blogfest, but so far, that’s a big old question mark for me. What are you thinking?
