Gym Noob

I’m legit, guys.

That’s right: I FINALLY made an appearance at the gym this morning. I don’t even know how long it’d been. (But the word “months” is involved…)

Not that it’s the end of the world-I’ve been really getting into the home workout thing-but when you’re paying for a gym membership, you get the most bang for your buck when you go there sometimes.

When I got there this morning, the first thing I did was waltz up to an elliptical machine, hop aboard, start punching at the buttons…and, eventually, realize that the machine was broken. My first thought was: “I bet this thing’s been broken for months and EVERYONE AROUND ME KNOWS IT.” Gym Noob!! (<-Completely irrational thought process. In reality, no one even looked up from their glossies.)

None of the other ellipticals on the main floor were open, so I decided to see what was playing in the Cardio Cinema (basically a dimly-lit movie theater with rows of cardio equipment). The movie of the day was New Year’s Eve, which I’d never seen because it looked like the cheesiest movie in the history of movies. But, you know, the bar for workout entertainment is a lot lower, so I stuck around. (Update: definitely the cheesiest movie in the history of movies. But it’s also loaded with good actors, and Lea Michele sings in it. So it’s a bit of a tradeoff.)

I did 20 minutes on the elliptical, 20 on the treadmill, and 20 on the bike (I ditched the movie to read this book during the bike part), and came out feeling totally refreshed and rejuvenated. This Saturday morning gym trip thing is something I could get used to.

So that’s one thing checked off my To Do list for the weekend…only 3 to go!

I plan on doing all of this stuff with my kids. Maybe someday, all parents will, and childhood obesity will no longer exist.

Love Caitlin’s post about perspective. Her tip: when things get overwhelming, just do ONE THING a day. Anything beyond that one thing is icing on the cake. (Does brushing my teeth count? Haha.)
