He’s here!

by Kim on August 29, 2014

Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been a little MIA. Just wanted to stop by and share the good news…

Baby #2 is finally here!! (Thank you for all of your sweet comments on the Instagram pics!)

Joshua Paul was born Tuesday at 1:15 PM, weighing 8 lbs. 15 oz. (the exact same weight his older brother was!) and measuring 21.5 inches long.

(Yes, I went into labor the same day I was complaining about not having gone into labor. Ha!)

We are all absolutely thrilled!

I’ll tell you the whole labor and delivery story next week—sneak preview: I didn’t quite get the super fast 2nd baby delivery everyone promised me. It actually took about as long as it did the first time, for reasons I’ll explain later.

But, of course, it was all worth it!

This kid has an INSANE head of hair! It was in a straight-up baby mohawk the whole time we were in the hospital, and finally settled down after his first bath at home.

Mason has been a great big brother so far. He’s super interested in the baby—loves kissing him, patting his head, and “holding” him.

IMG_6061

The perks don’t hurt either: he’s been getting swamped with extra attention and gifts, including this sweet fire truck “from the baby” that he got during his visit to the hospital.

As for me, I’m amazed at how good I’ve been feeling. I’m almost scared to say this, since I’m still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but recovery has been a breeze. Barely any pain, even after an episiotomy. We left the hospital after 24 hours, and I was comfortably strolling around the neighborhood with baby in a sling that same day.

The next day (2 days postpartum), we even went to the farmer’s market, and I felt like a million bucks! Such a nice surprise!

Maybe I was just prepared for the worst, but I’d like to think the smooth recovery has something to do with the way I took care of myself during pregnancy. So thankful for all those squats now!

My doctor said I’m ok to get back to exercising (I think she even used the word “vigorous”!) in 2 weeks, as long as I feel ok. Doesn’t that seem early?? I’ll obviously play it by ear—I’m definitely embracing the forced rest time right now!—but I was surprised (and, I’ll admit, a little excited) to hear that.

Bear with me as I get back into the swing of things, blogging-wise…but you can definitely expect to see that birth story here early next week!

For now, I’m off to hang out with my new family of 4. Smile

Fellow moms: how long were you told to hold off on exercise postpartum?

xoxo

Awwww, congratulations! He’s a doll! And I was thinking, waoh HAIR, before you even said it. I’m so glad you’re feeling so good already. That’s awesome. You really deserve it after all that work.

Congratulations! Glad you are all doing well and big brother is feeling good about his baby brother!

I asked my doc when I could get back to working out and she said as soon as I feel ready, even if that was the first week. It was not the first week, but I’ve done a couple of workouts on the elliptical now at 4 weeks PP.

Thanks Ashley! Funny, I keep forgetting it’s a long weekend since we’re all home with the baby anyway. Hope you have a great weekend as well!

Congratulations – he is such a cutie!!!
I had to wait 4 weeks after my first son and longer after the 2nd (because of issues I had) to work out. Glad you are doing so well!!!

Yay! Congratulations! How do I miss your pics on Instagram. I follow you. Weird. He is adorable and you look amazing! SO awesome that you are feeling great and recovering well. I had a pretty fast recovery after The Love Nugget too and started on my elliptical after 3 weeks and running after 4 weeks. With the doctors okay of course. It’s all based on how active you were before delivery. Although for me I jumped back into it way too fast and too hard which assisted in my lactation problems. AND I held on to the weight forever since my body was trying to store fat for milk. The things we learn AFTER the fact… I’m sure you are perfectly aware of how to take care of your body and baby :-)

Yeah I’m a little worried about finding the right balance with breastfeeding…I can’t wait to get back into shape but definitely not at the expense of my supply. I didn’t have any problems last time, but I was also not quite as eager to work out hard, haha.

Oh goodness, YAY! I guess I missed the IG pics…I’ll need to go check ’em out! Congratulations! He is absolutely precious. I just LOVE all the hair!! And I love hearing that you’re feeling so great. I’m curious if your birthing process had anything to do with it?? Did you do it all natural? I just ask because I’ve heard from other moms that have done it with no meds that the recovery process is a lot faster and better. I’m sure you’ll mention this in the birth story, but just wanted to ask! So happy to hear you’re home and doing well. Love to you all!

Nope, I’m not an all natural birth girl. I had an epidural and it was oh so amazing. :) haha. I have some theories about why it’s going so well, that I’ll mention in the birth story–I think a lot of it is that I just had a particularly rough first recovery, so this one feels like cake in comparison!
