I Can’t Wait…

by Kim on February 25, 2012

Welp, I’m 36 weeks preggo today. Only 4 weeks until D-day, although my fingers are (naturally) crossed for a slightly early delivery–say, March 17?? (Wouldn’t it be cool to have a St. Patty’s day birthday? I’m just thinking of him! haha…) I’m an incredibly impatient person in general, but this is like being 8 and looking forward to your birthday + Christmas rolled into one, when you know you’re getting the coolest gift you will ever get in your life (in fact, you’re forced to carry it around with you every day under your shirt, but you can’t open it yet!), and you’re not sure whether Birthmas will happen tomorrow, next week, or a month from now (OR, God forbid, longer!).

Oh, and you’re dealing with weird new pains everyday, you find yourself panting after ascending 5 stairs,¬†rolling over in bed is a huge operation,¬†and you have nothing left to wear (either because nothing fits your giant bump as well as it fit your teeny bump, or because you underestimated how warm you’d be when 9 months pregnant and bought too many sweaters–stupid!).

In summary: Torture!!

When something exciting was coming up in college, a friend of mine and I used to always fire each other up with the phrase “Can you wait??”

No, I can’t wait. Here are all the reasons I would happily fast forward 4 weeks of my life.

I can’t wait…

  • To see my little boy’s face for the first time.
  • To count fingers and toes and hear my son cry (well, just once would be fine).
  • To feel what labor is like (yes, I’m looking forward to pain, that’s how desperate the situation is getting).
  • To see my husband hold his son for the first time.
  • To lay down on my stomach.
  • To watch my husband change his first diaper (haha).
  • To feel what it’s like to be your baby’s only source of food.
  • To put our son in some of these cute little outfits I’ve been drooling over for months.
  • To drink a glass of wine. :)
  • To go on maternity leave! (i.e. lay around in yoga pants all day)
  • To call myself a mom.
  • To feel one of the most (if not the most) powerful forms of love on earth–the love for your child.

Ready when you are, little boy!
