Life in numbers

by Kim on August 30, 2013

The number of days until Healthy Living Summit 2013!! I’m so excited for my first blog conference ever, and so thrilled that it’s happening in a pretty convenient location for us (I’m kinda over planes for awhile).

I’m dragging the boys along so we can work in a little family and friend time while we’re up there—hopefully we can make it all happen. We try not to ever travel to the Twin Cities without a list of at least 4000 things we want to do and people we want to see. Guaranteed failure FTW! (?)

I’m also thrilled to be hosting a round table at the summit on Friday along with Jen and Emily (authors of a joint mother-daughter blog, how cute is that?). We’ll be chatting about blogging lessons learned—can’t wait to steal everyone’s secrets learn some new things! Afterwards, we’re planning to hit up the Union rooftop for dinner as a group before the summit cocktail party at 8.

If you’re attending the summit, we’d LOVE to have you join us!!

The number of times I was able to complete this workout (plus a 1 mile warm-up treadmill run) yesterday before I dissolved into a useless pile of sweat on the floor.

Yes, this is from the August Pinterest Challenge. I’ve now done 4/8 of the things I’m supposed to finish by…wait, tomorrow???

4 kajillion

The number of rocks Mason brings home in his shoes every time we go to the park.

(Zero is the number of times I remember to dump them out while we’re still outside, rather than on the carpet.)

10 (out of 10)

The score I gave my latest food pile lunch.

Sweet apple chicken sausage (my favorite thing ever), corn, green beans, over-easy egg, couscous (it’s buried), and (a tad too much) honey mustard.

Usually, every last kernel of corn in the house goes to Mase, who’s obsessed with the stuff, but I got selfish yesterday and I don’t regret it.

The amount that I enjoyed Revenge Wears Prada, the “beach read” I got for Florida.

Ok, zero is an exaggeration, since I did read the whole thing. But I was so, so disappointed. The first 80% of the book was slow, disjointed, and plotless, and led up to the most unnecessarily, stupidly tragic ending ever.

And now you probably want to read it just to find out about the unnecessarily, stupidly tragic ending…well, I won’t ruin it, just in case, but it’s really not worth your time.

I can’t promise I wouldn’t watch the movie if they made it, because I loved the first one. But hopefully they’ll make a ton of liberal storyline changes.

The number of seconds Mase stays in the pool at a time, after I go through all the trouble of dragging it out, filling it up, changing him, and getting out the pool toys.

And by “pool toys,” I mean crap from the kitchen.

He’s generally much more interested in hanging out on the perimeter, or randomly running into the neighbor’s yard.

P.S. We’ve been getting a lot of this face lately, particularly when he sees the camera and feels the need to show off.

The number of days until Parenthood, aka the best TV show of all time, starts up again.

The trailer gave away a lot, which was kind of upsetting, but I’m sure they’ll find a way to work in some fresh tragedy and the standard gut-wrenching twists along the way.

What’s the last book you read?

Please, I need suggestions! I need to recover from this!

Favorite fall TV show?

Any new workouts you’ve tried?

I so wanted to read the follow up Devil Wears Prada book too but now not so much.

I wish they had blogging conferences like that hear in Australia. They sound amazing :)

Sorry to ruin the book for you! :( Maybe it was just me, but I just couldn’t relate to Andy in this one at all.

You should throw the inaugural Australian blogging conference! Or just swing over to the US and hang with us. :)

Great post!
I am downloading Parenthood right away. I am going to start with the pilot. I am curious about it… :P
OK now. Last book I read was by Tim Lott. I ordered it on to my Kindle. The title is: How To Be Invisible.
It is about a 13 year old boy and how he deals with his problems. A very “light” read.

Thanks Eszter!!

I hope you like Parenthood! :)

I love Parenthood, and I am so excited for the new season too! I just finished reading Gone Girl (I was late to the party), and I found it absolutely enthralling. Fair warning, there are definitely some people who did not like the ending, but I loved it!

Oh no, I keep hearing people didn’t like the first half of that, haha! I have been meaning to give it a shot, though.

Gabrielle August 30, 2013 at 1:40 pm

Hi Kim!

I’m so excited for the Healthy Living Summit as well. It will be my first conference too. I hope to get to meet you there! Last book I read was The Cuckoo’s Calling. I can’t wait for Grey’s Anatomy this fall, what can I say? I still love it!

Kim August 30, 2013 at 4:25 pm

Hey Gabrielle! I hope to meet you too! I honestly didn’t realize GA was still on, haha, but I don’t blame you for loving it. :)

Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome August 30, 2013 at 11:39 am

I wish I could join you at the Summit! sounds like it will be a blast! The Love Nugget never stays in the pool for very long either. Actually, our dog popped our blow up one so we haven’t used it in a while. Which doesn’t really seem to bother him! He really doesn’t stick to any activity for very long now that I think about it. Normal 2 year old attention span! I read Wild a few months ago and it was pretty good. Now I’m reading another hiking book that I have to review and so far it’s okay. I’m not much of a hiker so I can’t really relate but it’s keeping me engaged for the most part… Hoping to find a good one after this though!

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one with a tornado kid. :) I’ll have to check out Wild…I’ve also been wanting to read Push by Chalene Johnson, so I might try to get my hands on that!

Katie @ running4cupcakes August 30, 2013 at 10:28 am

I can’t believe that we are going to get to meet in 14 days!! That is awesome. And I am a little bummed that I can’t join you for dinner. . . I am leading my own dinner group before the cocktail party!! Plan to meet up at the cocktail party and share pics of our little guys??

Kim August 30, 2013 at 4:26 pm

Definitely!!! See you SOON! :)

Kristin @ A Mom on the Run August 30, 2013 at 10:19 am

I can’t wait for Parenthood — it’s my favorite show!!

I have no book suggestions, the last thing I read was Llama Llama, Red Pajama.. over, and over, and over..

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hahaha! I probably have about 10-15 kids’ books memorized at this point, and I’m guessing that number only goes up? It’s kinda nice because Mason can flip through a book while I’m changing him and I can recite the whole story to him without looking, ha!

Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries August 30, 2013 at 9:40 am

Love this post idea! Too fun. And YES! I just LOVE Parenthood! Definitely one of my all time favorite TV shows. :)
