Life Resolutions

Happy New Year!!

Wow, 2013 sounds weird. That’s going to take some getting used to.

I’ll try not to get too sentimental and reflective on you here, but 2012 was a great year for me. It was the year I became a mom.

It was the year I learned that growing up in a big family and having lots of experience with kids does not, in fact, prepare you for what it’s like to have your own. The year I was introduced to a kind of love that’s bigger than any I’d ever experienced before.

The year I learned how little sleep I’m actually able to function on. The year I was introduced to the frustration of knowing something’s wrong with your child but not knowing what that thing is. The year I first experienced the immense trauma of traveling with a baby and the equally immense joy of making my son laugh.

All those other years were pretty great too, but it’s just hard to compete with this:

Last night was one of the most low-key New Year’s Eves I’ve had in many, many New Year’s Eves, but it was also one of the most fun. We stayed in our warm home, had some good friends over, grazed on snacks…

food Crackers with roasted red pepper hummus, apples (sliced later) and caramel dip, pretzels, and sweet potato pop chips (so good, but I hate that they come in such tiny bags!). Oh, and sweet & sour meatballs (unpictured-they didn’t photograph well).

…and, of course, watched the Bieber NYE performance (duh).

biebsI don’t even know where to begin on my comments for this picture.

And THEN, there was the piece de resistance:

Oh, yes.

This game was SO much fun-about 4 hours of straight laughter (and we didn’t even finish!). Although I have to say…the questions for the women were WAY harder than the ones for the men. Even the guys agreed. Along with the standard fishing and woodworking terminology questions (which any man can answer, of course), there were some obscure history and military questions that felt a little out of place. In the guys’ questions, there were tons of softballs about well-known celebrities and makeup brands. (I mean, come on.)

We awkwardly watched the ball drop on the East Coast at 11 PM our time, and then took a break right before midnight to, um, watch it again.

With a little bubbly, of course…

005 Xmas card overload on the fridge!

008 Notice the fancy champagne flutes. Nothin but class over here.

Possibly the best part: Mason didn’t make a peep the whole night! I was a little nervous when we were going to bed around 2 AM, and he’d already been asleep for 7 hours straight, but he was a champ. So nice to be back to some semblance of normalcy (KNOCK. ON. WOOD.) after his sleep schedule took such a huge hit from traveling and sickness.

So, it’s officially 2013. What’s on your agenda for the year??

I’m not big into New Year’s resolutions, mostly because of all the negative stigma that’s attached to them these days. But I am into examining your life, identifying areas of weakness or unhappiness, and making changes to address those areas.

So here’s the list of what I’m calling my Life Resolutions. These are the things I need to work on-not just this year, but every year.

Life Resolutions

Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions?

How about Life Resolutions?

Welcome to 2013, friends.
