Meals & Workouts (aka Fighting My Type A-ness)

by Kim on December 4, 2012

I’ve been doing weekly meal planning for a long time (anything to avoid the frantic 5 pm cupboard-raid!), but I’ve never shared any of those plans here. The reason? Mostly, I didn’t want the pressure of having to actually follow through with them.

I realize how lazy that makes me sound, but you know what I mean. (And who says I’m not lazy??) I just didn’t want to be all “On Monday, we shall have <X Super Complicated, Crazy Healthy Meal>” only to have Monday end up being one of those upside-down, nothing-is-going-right kind of days that ends with a frozen meal in the oven. Off days are bad enough without the extra self-imposed guilt of shortcutting a meal.

And, of course, sometimes a meal is punted for dinner out or leftovers. You know how it is.

Besides all of that, I wasn’t sure if you’d even be interested in what we’re eating around here given my crazy dietary restrictions.

I also haven’t wanted to talk about my workout plans in advance, for the same reason. I’m just one of those Type A psychos who gets all bent out of shape when she can’t put a check on a To Do list at the right time.

But I know that I personally like to hear about what’s on other people’s menus, to get ideas. And since I started doing the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge, I’ve decided that I’d really like to be more strategic about my workout planning. Plus, of course, telling someone your workout plans can be very motivating!

And so, here we are: my meals and workouts for the week, (mostly) in advance.

Since it’s completely up in the air whether any of this will go down as planned, don’t think of these as plans but “ideas.” Also, to keep them as fluid as possible, I’m not even going to attach them to specific days.

So calm down, Type A-ness. This isn’t even a rough draft-it’s just an outline.

Meal Ideas

plate

–Tacos (we had these last night-I’m on a roll so far, ha!)

–Crockpot Orange Glazed Chicken (chicken breasts cooked in a mixture of orange juice concentrate and marjoram, from a crockpot cookbook I have) with Pumpkin Apple Harvest Rice (SO GOOD)

Pumpkin Maple Baked Bean Cornbread Casserole from Oh She Glows

–Turkey and stuffing (I bought a little 6-lb. turkey on sale the other day-Thanksgiving food never gets old, and can be surprisingly easy if you’re home all day to watch the oven)

–Crockpot BBQ Chicken (hubby’s request – no recipe, just winging it – fingers crossed…) – served with rice

(I’ve been loving my crockpot lately, can you tell?)

Some Extras:

(Hubby and I have been hankering for sweets lately big time!)

Vegan Cranberry Crumble Bars from Daily Garnish (I’ve been dying to try these!)

Vegan Chocolate Mint Cookies (secret ingredient: avocado! what??)

Workout Ideas

shoveling Shoveling in just a tank and half-zipped ski pants would obviously be on this list if we had snow right now

–20 min HIIT (did TurboFire yesterday-check!)

–3 mile run

–30 min HIIT/Pinterest workout combo

–Body Pump (I haven’t been to a class in a long time, but I’ve been meaning to get back to it! Hopefully writing that here will help!)

So that’s the “plan”! And now the pressure’s on I’m going to be cool about the fact that I’ve published this and just do my best.

What’s on your menu/workout schedule for the week?

Are you Type A about cooking or workout plans? (If not, teach me!)

I’ve been posting my meal plans on my blog weekly in attempt to keep myself on track. I commute an hour and twenty minutes each way so having a plan helps me know what’s for dinner and I can prep on Sunday to help myself out during the week. Workouts though, I try not to post. Because if I don’t accomplish the workout, I get really angry at myself. I’m the same way as you that way!
