I’ve been holding out on you guys.
There’s something I’ve been secretly cooking up for months now, and I haven’t said anything–mostly because I wanted to wait until I was 197% sure it was actually going to happen.
I’m finally at about 136% certainty, so I guess it’s time to unveil!
I’m leading a local 6-week prenatal fitness class this summer.
The idea originally came up last fall. I was looking for a moms’ fitness program similar to Stroller Strides, but less expensive (or free), and with more of a focus on socializing. Kinda like a moms’ playdate group, with workouts and health-related discussions.
When I didn’t find anything in my area that was quite what I was looking for, I thought…maybe I should start one myself?
I knew that the lovely ladies of Fit Approach (aka Sweat Pink) had “Sweat Pink Chapters”–mostly university-based fitness clubs–so I reached out to them to see if they’d thought about expanding their program to moms groups. They totally had, and were in fact working on rolling out a more extensive chapter program at that very second.
They encouraged me to pilot a moms group with them in exchange for free use of their brand name and site, and I was PUUUMPED…and then I got pregnant.
So then I started thinking…how about a prenatal fitness group?
Obviously, no one’s pregnant forever, so a short-term class seemed like the best approach. I also thought it would be a nice trial for me, to see if this moms club thing was something I truly wanted to pursue long-term.
And so, I started working on my prenatal fitness certification, and dove into planning the Madison Prenatal Fitness Club.
Our first class is tonight.
After all the time I’ve spent learning about prenatal fitness, writing workouts, designing posters, setting up a website, contacting local media outlets for help with publicity, arranging studio space rentals, and generally panicking (will anyone join?? will they hate the classes? will I get stuck on bedrest or go into early labor and have to cancel the whole thing??)–it’s all going down in a few hours.
My notes are ready…my brain? TBD.
I’ll tell you all about it soon.
Wish me luck!!
P.S. I’m kicking off the class with a track I learned at my recent PiYo certification–first time teaching it live. Here goes nothing!!
