Ready enough

by Kim on July 14, 2014

Heyyy check it out!

The first piece of baby gear for #2 is officially set up in our room.

I’ve heard great things about these Rock n’ Plays, so I’m excited to try one out with the new guy. Supposedly they’re magical for newborn sleep! I snagged this off Craigslist over the weekend, and we also got a white crib (also through Craigs).

We still don’t have an actual room set up, but should something crazy happen in the next 6 weeks, I’m calling us “ready enough.”

My next job is to break into the BOXES of baby clothes in the basement and start washing things…

Poor Mason had kind of a rough weekend–not that you’d know it by looking at him.

He came home from daycare last Friday with hand, foot, and mouth disease. SUCH a weird (gross) disease! It started with a fever, and then he broke out in super itchy blister-like sores all over his body (NOT just his hands, feet, and mouth–false advertising!).

I felt bad because he was miiiiiserable on Thursday night, literally screaming and grabbing at his feet, but all we could see at that point was that his heels were a little red. We had no idea why he was having such a dramatic reaction to what we thought was a little rubbing from his shoes (did he VERY suddenly grow out of them??).

And then–boom. Fever. Blisters everywhere.

Weirdly, he never seemed as uncomfortable as he was that first night. He was pretty happy all weekend–just a little more itchy.

Not too itchy to try out some new car-driving surfaces, rocky terrain and all.

On Saturday, I headed to a baby shower for my friend Kyla. It was at a lakeside shelter, which was risky given that it was supposed to rain all day, but luckily it held off until we were done.

I’d never been to an outdoor shower before–loved it! Everything went beautifully.

Kyla’s having a boy, like literally everyone I know. Something’s in the water in our area, it’s weird–none of us can produce girls here!

I’m excited that our little dude will have a buddy his age!

Yesterday, after picking up our Craigslist crib and jamming it into our tiny trunk with bungee cords, we headed downtown for a little family walk on the lake.

In my case, this means lots of drooling over boats. I want one soooo bad…someday!

Mason’s highlight: the ducks.

Such a nice way to end a weekend!

So much for the “rain all weekend” weather forecast, ha.

Back to work today–it’s officially my last week at my job! Such a strange/exciting/scary feeling!

Oh, and did you notice what I did to the blog?? I’m kind of a blog makeover junkie…I just wasn’t feeling the gold on my previous design. It really wasn’t me. I’m loving this for now, but who knows if the itch will come back? Ha!

What do you think of the new look?

How was your weekend?

Anyone used a Rock n’ Play before? Is it as miraculous as they say??

Anyone experienced this crazy hand, foot, mouth disease with your kiddos? Any advice?

Am I the only one who’s weirdly obsessed with becoming a boat owner?

I’ve heard that the rock n play is one of those must haves for a baby! My son is 6 months old and my favorite thing I splurged on (well, I had gift cards lol) was the Mamaroo. OMG, it was a lifesaver. I’ve seen them on Craigs List type sites before for half the price. Totally, totally totally worth every penny!

Sorry about his little sickness, it has been going around our Church nursery pretty bad so I’ve been trying to keep Tate away!

Wow the Mamaroo looks pretty sweet! We just have a basic bouncer that we’ll probably be stuck with again! :)

Yes, avoid that nursery! I guess it spread to every single kid in my son’s daycare, so sounds like it’s super contagious.

Reading the comments, I’m thinking I may have to look in to a rock n play. Hmmm….

I’m glad to hear Mason is feeling better. Hand, Foot and Mouth sounds like no fun at all. Poor little guy!

I’ve only ever heard wonderful things!

Love the new look! Loved the old one too though :-) Why the change?
We didn’t have a Rock ‘n Play but had a bouncer that looked just like that and The Love Nugget LOVED it. He actually slept in it next to our bed for weeks! We did wish that it bounced or rocked on it’s own so I’m sure that one is awesome!

I just didn’t like the gold in my design. Too blingy for my personality. :) Hopefully I can be content with this for awhile–I’m sure my husband’s getting so sick of me asking for help!

We used the Pack n Play for sleep in our room with Mason and he HATED it. But I was a rule-follower and thought I absolutely had to keep him on his back on a flat, hard surface. If you think about it, they’re coming from being curled up in the womb–I don’t blame them for hating flat surfaces! :) Hoping this will allow us to avoid some of the trauma we went through last time. We’ll see!!

I loved the look of the gold, but love the new design too :) It’s important that is fits YOU! Oh, and we have a serious itch to buy a boat right now…if we weren’t saving up for a wedding I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t buy one!

I was wondering if I missed where you announced that the design changed — I love it! :)

Mackenzie slept in the Rock ‘n Play until 7 months and that thing was AMAZING!! I loved how easy it was to travel with too! I was so sad when we finally moved her out of it.

My husband talks about getting boat all the time – first on our priority list now though is a pool!

Haha I’ve been messing with my design so much lately that it doesn’t seem like big news when I change it anymore. Hopefully I’ll be content with this for awhile. :)

SO happy to hear you loved the Rock n Play too! I have yet to hear anything but rave reviews. Excited to try it out!

Ooh a pool sounds nice too… :)

LOVE the new header!! An outdoor baby shower sounds nice! (Only been to an outdoor bridal shower – mine! haha). Our Saturday was nice and sunny here, but yesterday started with rain, so we hung out at home! I’m itching to run today because I haven’t in so long – this either means I should have Tyler put a tracker for my phone on his phone in case I end up keeled over somewhere, or I rock it! Hopefully the latter!

Hahaha! You will definitely rock it. Like…definitely. Actually, I used to find that the first run after a long time off was usually awesome! It was the second one that tended to suck… :)

We SWORE by our Rock and Play and just set it up again. You will LOVE it! It’s the number #1 must have I tell all new parents:):)

That’s so good to hear!!! I was getting the feeling I missed out last time. :)

Ali July 14, 2014 at 12:27 pm

We used a rock n’ play for Aiden until he was 4.5 months old. It was really good and convenient. The only problem was that it was a little more difficult to transition him into his crib because it’s such a difference for them. I am going to use it again when we have baby #2, but I’m going to make sure to use the crib occasionally too.

That’s exactly what I’ve heard! My current plan is to use the crib during the day and the RnP at night, but we’ll see if I can stick to that. :)

Lovin’ the new header!

So sorry to hear about Mason’s H, F, & M episode. Hunter got that a few months back, and it was pretty terrible. I’m glad he’s starting to be more himself now though.

I’m curious to hear how you like the rock ‘n play. We never had one with Hunter, but I keep hearing such amazing things about them. We may have to do one for the next baby down the road.

You look so beautiful! Crazy that you’re already in the home stretch. How are you liking being pregnant during the summer? (This is me planning ahead for myself… Ha!)

Same exact story with the rock n play — we didn’t have one last time, but I’ve heard SO many good things, I had to find out what it’s all about! We also struggled so much with Mason’s sleep, so I’m willing to try anything. :) I’ll report back!

Summer pregnancy hasn’t been as bad as I anticipated (maybe partially because we haven’t had a very hot summer here), BUT I’d still prefer to do the home stretch in the winter. I just don’t like to miss out on summer activities, and we’ll basically be home-bound all through August (not traveling outside the city anyway) in case the baby comes early. If we have another kiddo, I’d be hoping for a spring baby. :)
