Hours after all this trauma went down, we packed up the car and headed north to stay at a friend’s cabin for 2 nights while my mom babysat the little dude.
Having been awake since 5 (and a little spent from crying after the 5K fiasco, and after saying goodbye to Mason), I was pretty wiped, so when I saw this koozie at a gas station, it was a no-brainer:
I made my hair extra flat just for the effect. Obviously.
…Even though motherhood wasn’t really to blame this time. I also grabbed a 5 Hour Energy, which I 100% regretted later when I was STILL AWAKE at 4 AM. (Watch out: 5 Hour Energy, maybe, but 12 Hour Wakefulness.)
At one point, we stopped at the Hoops Travel Center, which was well advertised from the highway (and well hyped in our minds) but turned out to be a completely standard gas station except for this:
I don’t know what we expected, but I thought this was pretty weak by any standard.
(This was also the point when we realized we’d stolen my mom’s suitcase. It had been sitting by the door at home, very close to the pile of stuff I was collecting to take along, so Brent had assumed it was my suitcase. NO!!!! We felt HORRIBLE. My poor mom had to run to Target to buy a toothbrush and a change of clothes. All I could think was: “Seriously. What next.”)
As we crossed over into Michigan, the drive got especially pretty…
Blue skies, puffy clouds, green trees. And LOTS of deer lurking on the side of the road, ready to top off my day.
Finally, after 5 hours of driving, the fun officially began.
We’re here!
The inside…(hi, Tiffany!)
Out on the pontoon (or in this picture, sitting on the pontoon while its battery charged)…
The great outdoors, folks.
Same time next year?
