Oh hi! How was your weekend?
Ours was pretty killer.
(Mason advertising for Food Should Taste Good, aka “Chip! Chip!”)
I was totally going to blog on Friday (let the record show it), but we ended up not having working WiFi at the hotel we stayed at over the weekend.
It was a blessing in disguise…I was forced to sit on the balcony and read instead.
But let me back up: Thursday night, we took the kiddo to his first fireworks show.
He looooved it–and was deeply confused about why he was awake so late. (He ran around with a mischievous “I think I’m getting away with something” face.)
The show didn’t start until 9:30 PM, so we decided to put him down at his usual time and then wake him up an hour and a half later. This ended up working like a charm–we carried him straight from bed to stroller and headed down the block to our little neighborhood park, where we had a pretty good view of the nearby fireworks.
The next day, we packed up the car and headed to a waterpark resort a few hours away for a little 2-night getaway. I’d originally wanted to rent a cabin and do the whole rustic thing (short of ACTUAL tent camping, which we’re kind of terrified of with a 2-year-old), but hotel rooms were the only options left when we booked.
The weather was ok–not as hot as I was hoping (I need 80+ for waterparks) but it didn’t rain either.
This guy didn’t seem to care as long as there were shovels and buckets involved.
The resort also had a large indoor waterpark, which is where we ended up spending most of our time.
We were suuuper bummed to find out that we weren’t allowed to take Mase down waterslides (which we did at the waterpark we went to a few months ago and he went nuts for it). Even the smaller slides were for single riders only, and kids had to be at least 42 inches tall.
Ugh! The resort definitely lost some huge points from us on that.
Other than that, it was a nice, relaxing trip.
(Loving the awkward selfie arm reflected in my sunglasses, haha.)
Mase picked up the phrase “oh goodness” and it was cracking me up all weekend. At one point, he decided to poop in the swim diaper I’d just put on him (backwards, apparently–my bad)…let’s just say the hotel floor took the fall for my mistake. And so did Mase’s feet, went he went running through it. Then, as we were frantically cleaning the whole mess up (Brent freaking out/me laughing hysterically), he just kept saying, “ohhh, goodness. Ohhh, goodness. Ohhh goodness.”
Dear hotel room maid: I’m really, really sorry.
We spent the evenings in the hotel room watching our newest TV series pick, Orange is the New Black. I think we’re hooked!
The trip ended Sunday morning with a stop at Perkins on the way out of town. Banana french toast for this girl, and OJ for Mase (we could NOT convince him that he didn’t have to tip the cup up when drinking out of a straw…result: OJ shorts).
Exhausting weekend–but so much fun!
How was your weekend?
US-ers, how did you celebrate the 4th?
xoxo

To the poop situation – I feel for ya. Mine not as severe, but there have been a handful of times (including today) where I get Nia to try to sit on the potty (especially if she’s telling me “pee pee”), and whip off her diaper to find her business already in it. Today’s wasn’t as bad (I’ve had previous on the carpet), the poop fell into her potty as she was sitting down. You’d think I would have learned by now, but nope!
Sounds like a fun weekend. I really want Nia to experience a water park soon!

Hahaha ohhh poop. Hey, kudos to you for kicking off the potty training thing!! We’re still in the “talking about it” stage. :)
Bahahaha oh dear! Talk about a mess! But, what a funny, funny, funny memory! Boo that you couldn’t take him down the slides…lame!

Right?? Totally lame!!
What a fun resort! I want to go! Actually a hotel room would have ben much nicer than our tent this past weekend. While it was fun it’s been way tooling since I’ve slept on an air mattress and I was itching to go home! It was a fun weekend though :-)

Yeah it was definitely comfy. :) The only downfall was that we had to miss out on the whole campfire part of the experience. Your trip sounded awesome!!
HaHa – that story about the swim diaper and Mason saying “oh goodness” over and over cracked me up!!!
Here is my straw tip from the days when my boys were little – I kept the small sewing scissors in my purse and we cut the straw way down so that even when kids tip it (because they do!!!), it wouldn’t spill.

Brilliant idea! Thanks :)
it sounds like you had a great weekend, even though there were some hiccups along the way. Swimming and diapers don’t always mix so well, do they? I was a lifeguard for a few years in high school and college, and I often felt bad for the moms as they panicked about the situation with their kids!

Major lame about the water slide rule! I’m glad you guys had fun regardless! Sounds like a fun holiday weekend (maybe despite the poop story, but it was pretty funny to read about!).

It was pretty funny to experience it too, although I’m still kicking myself for my diaper application fail. Live and learn!
Sounds like a great relaxing weekend! We had probably the most American 4th of July I’ve ever had. Nathan and Ryan made the drive to Maryland and we watched the fireworks on the National Mall in Washington DC…doesn’t get much more American than that!

Luke does the same thing with cups and straws. . . ;)

Glad we’re not alone in this!! :)
The weekend was pretty good! I got to see a lot of friends/their kids and at one point my dad made the “good practice” comment towards me holding a baby, ahh! Plus its fun to sit with the teenagers and hear about middle school drama.

Ahh gotta love those comments. And then once you have a kid, it immediately switches to “when’s he getting a brother or sister?” I think I might finally be approaching a time when no one cares about my reproductive future anymore. :)
I don’t know if I could handle hearing about middle school drama, haha–although I can still remember how serious it all was when I was going through it!
