Throw a girl a bone + Friday faves

by Kim on May 9, 2014

I can’t decide what part of my morning was more stressful…

–Mason’s on his 4th day of sickness, so he’s home with me and therefore had to be dragged along to my prenatal appointment. Of course, it had to be the one with the hour-long glucose test, and he’s already totally clinic-averse.

Luckily, the women’s clinic has a pretty sweet kids’ play area.

I showed the doctor my single-ankle vericose veins situation, and she said, “well, at least it’s not on both!” Yes, thank you.

Looks like my compression socks are going to come in handy for more than running! And now I feel 90.

–We followed up the prenatal visit with a trip to the pediatrician, to make sure this relentless bug isn’t something more than a cold. A nebulizer treatment, a chest X-ray, and an hour and a half later, we walked out with prescriptions for an inhaler and steroids, plus an extremely over-tired kiddo. (But luckily, no pneumonia!)

And I finally got to appreciate the glory of using a drive-through coffee shop as a mom. I’ve heard about this miracle idea—no dragging out kids and carseats just to run in!!—but never took advantage of it until today, when we had 20 minutes to kill between appointments.

Starbucks, my friend, you’re crazy overpriced, but let’s face it: I would have paid double.

And I still don’t understand why your green mermaid has two tails.

–I dumped 3 teaspoons of vanilla extract into a recipe and it came out smelling like almond extract. Not because I mixed up the bottles, either (shockingly!)…I’m pretty sure I actually got a mislabeled/mispackaged bottle. Watch out, grocery store—you’ll be hearing about this. (And, if I’m right, potentially getting into some trouble, given that almond is a top allergen that must be clearly marked…dun dun DUN!)

Oh, and I hate almond extract!

Can someone please throw a girl a bone!

Anyway. Enough drama. This is not the Friday I know and love.

Let’s perk this post up with a few Friday Favorites! I’ve been lurking around on Pinterest again…

To wear:

I’m convinced that I need a Lululemon Iconic Wrap (or similar) for the squishy-tummy, breastfeeding-marathon postpartum days.

It doesn’t look like much here, but if you watch the video on the Lulu page, you see how cute and versatile it can be. Fellow moms: thoughts? Suggestions for cheaper alternatives?

Here’s a runner-up option—very cute, but not as BFing-friendly.

On a similar note, I’m wondering if I can pull something like this off:

I’m wearing a cute scarf…and BAM! Discreetly nursing!!

Speaking of scarves, this one from Anthropologie has been screaming at me for weeks.

Why do I have to like all the expensive stuff??

To eat:

This vegan garlic roasted tomato pasta is already on the menu for next week:

This mushroom, goat cheese and herb frittata needs to be on the menu. It would be a perfect Mother’s Day breakfast, if only my mom were here so I could make it for her.

In lieu of that: I’m not above making it for myself.

A friend of mine showed me this recipe and I can’t wait to try it!

And because no Pinterest list is complete without a dessert: these lemon white chocolate cookies have been on my list for awhile now.

Only 5 ingredients!

The only thing turning me off about the recipe is that I don’t cook with vegetable oil anymore…can anyone help me with a sub?

To do:

New plan for Mason’s big boy room: I think we might go airplanes. (“EPs” as he calls them.)

I found these decals and love how easy they make it to fill up a big wall.

Smart or lazy? Is there a difference?

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

I love that Iconic Wrap. I may have to splurge and buy one for after baby arrives later this summer!

I’m sorry you had to take Mason with to your glucose test. That test is no fun at all. I took my girls with to a regular appointment today, and they ran around like crazy people the whole time. It looks like your doctor’s office is a pretty fun place to play though.

I’m also wearing compression socks right now to fight off varicose veins. My whole left shin is covered… not cute at all. I had similar problems with my second pregnancy, and thankfully they went away pretty quickly after baby was born.

Starbucks drive-thru is my detriment. Yes, I said it. I go there too much when we are out and yes, they are overpriced and too sugary, but they are oh so good and are an instant mood lifter.

Umm that Iconic Wrap is amazing. I want everything from that store and Anthropologie but lets face it, I can only afford the headbands from Lulu and the coffee mugs from Anthro ;)

Those cookies. Omg. As far as substitutes go, maybe applesauce? I’ve baked with it before with decent results. I’m stressing decent here, because let’s face it… It’s not oil.

Of course I would focus on the cookies…

Sorry that the sick bug hit you! LOVE those wraps though! I am going to wait to see if breastfeeding works out this time (last time I took every supplement/herb/food known to mankind and still would only produce maybe 1 ounce at a time!
Happy Mother’s Day!

Crazy about the extract! You tell ’em what’s up girl! But seriously, I’d be a little pissed, especially if allergies are a sensitive thing in my family. The nursing scarf is genius. I’d be all about it! And I’m with you on the loving all the expensive stuff. It’s like I’m just instantly DRAWN to it all! Ha!

Oh airplane theme is SO adorable! Love it. And I LOVE that lulu shirt. I think I might have to go do some online retail therapy. . .
