Top Easter moment, new favorite hang-out, a mile trial, and a special announcement

Happy (belated) Easter!

I know we look happy (despite general confusion about where the camera is), but the truth is that my March Madness bracket had officially busted mere minutes before this. I was seriously THIS. CLOSE.

I spent most of the afternoon here:

Working on this:

And these:

We didn’t do anything super special with Mason for Easter (I figured he was too young for egg hunts and baskets and all that—not to mention he’s allergic to 90% of the candy in the world). So my top Easter moment was probably teaching Sunday School that morning, and watching one of my girls run up to her parents after service yelling, “Mommy, WOW! JESUS IS ALIVE!” So proud.

I hate to risk putting you to sleep with lame weather commentary, like we’re total strangers and I can’t think of anything better to say, but here in the Midwest, we’re a little obsessive about our season changes. We just can’t help it.

Like, last week, I saw running water outside for the first time in 6 months.

The scenery around here is the nastiest thing ever right now, but it’s also NOT SNOW, and therefore, gorgeous. Perspective.

Going for long daily walks is the new sitting-around-the-house-moping-about-winter.

The cool thing about getting outdoorsy Christmas presents in the Midwest is that it’s like Christmas all over again when you finally get to use them, 4+ months later.

We weren’t sure if we’d ever seen bigger smiles on this kid. Good call on the Cozy Roadster, Grandma!

I got to spend a good chunk of Saturday camped out at Barnes & Noble again, working on freelance projects.

It was heaven. Like I was a real adult with a life or something, rather than someone who spends 85% of her day talking gibberish in a super high voice to a 1-year-old.

The only bad thing about working in a public place is that you inevitably look up now and then, deep in thought, and only several seconds later realize you’re staring at someone—who is staring back at you. Er, oops.

Anytime I’m at B&N, people watching is a given. I just can’t help it. On Saturday, there was a young woman openly breastfeeding her baby in the café—I was so impressed! But she was trumped later in the day by an even younger woman I saw breastfeeding her baby WHILE STANDING IN LINE at the mall, on a Saturday, and simultaneously pushing a stroller piled with merchandise. She somehow made it through the whole transaction that way, I think (she was behind me in line, so eventually I had to stop ogling her out of my periphs and actually leave the store like a normal person).

Oh, and I think I might have found my next book at B&N:

I wonder how long it takes for new books to hit the library?

…Which, by the way, is our new favorite hang-out. At the one near our house, there’s a huge kids’ play area with all kinds of toys and books…

Library

Oh, and a freaking CASTLE.

NBD.

Another thing I did over the weekend was attempt a mile trial on the treadmill. I was feeling good about hitting my 7-minute-mile goal, but in the end, it was a fail.

I wonder if I’d do better off the treadmill? …And now I have to go daydream about owning a Garmin again.

Quick announcement: you’ll want to make sure and stop by the blog this Thursday! I’m teaming up with some of my lovely Sweat Pink pals to bring you a…

Spring Playlist
(Save this Image)

I know a lot of people have been giving their workout playlists a little spring makeover, so I thought, why not have everyone share their work in one place so we can steal their ideas all have rocking music??

Here’s the deal: this Thursday, I’ll be posting my new, SUPER HOT spring playlist. At the bottom of the post, there’ll be a place for others (anyone!) to link up their spring playlist posts.

If you’ve recently written a spring playlist post, or have plans to write one soon, I encourage you to stop by and link up with us on Thursday! Please feel free to use the link-up image above in your post. (In case you’re like “what’s a spring playlist post? You know that’s not A Thing, right?” here’s a recent example of one Janae did.)

If you want to make your playlist specific to a certain activity, like running or Zumba, or a certain bpm range, like 4-5 kajillion beats per minute, that’s cool.

Or you can take the “here are some random songs I dig right now that seem like they might be good for working out” approach. Like I will be.

If you’re not interested in participating in the link-up, stop by anyway and get some music ideas! Despite the fact that I’m a boring white suburban mom, I love me some rap and hip-hop, so if my playlist is a little too gangsta for your taste, don’t worry: you’ll probably be able to find something a little classier on other blogs.

Ok! I’m off to start my music-hunt…

You poor thing with the gloomy weather! Someday spring will arrive! We’ve been enjoying warmer weather but with thunderstorms the past few days. Warm enough to run outdoors though in shorts and a tank! Yay!
I love the link up idea! I’ve been needing some new songs so I’ll have to see if I can get a list together by then.

I think a one mile trial would be difficult on a treadmill. You’d have to estimate your pace, and if you were wrong, well, fail.

I you don’t have a garmin try running a mile on the track. If you run in the 4th lane on a 400m track it should be really close to a mile. How close, or close enough depends on how type A you are :-)

PS Your son is a cutie-pie!
