When I was growing up, my family did some pretty serious camping. Tents, cooking food over the fire, outhouses—the whole thing. Our entertainment included fishing, playgrounds, and, umm, just kinda hanging out.
But then we got older. And now my parents rent out amenity-filled villas at a waterpark instead. We cook with an oven, sleep in beds, and play video games on the TV when it rains.
Hey, change is good.
We joined my extended family at Jellystone Park in Warrens, WI, for the weekend. The yogi bear theme is eeeeverywhere.
(Brace yourself for possibly the lamest, most touristy photo of all time.)
Mason was not a huge fan of the water…
This was 8 inches of pure bathwater—I mean, come on.
Can’t wait to get his butt into swimming lessons.
He was much happier when participating in either of his two favorite activities of all time:
#1: Playing with cars.
He even had a buddy, since cousin Charlie loves cars too!
#2: Running. Anywhere.
Or even nowhere. (That’s my boy.)
(There was a car show going on, in case you’re wondering why we let our kid loose in front of a sea of cars.)
At one point, we dropped the runner off with Grandma to indulge in some Adult Time. Aka mini golf.
totally dominated lost pretty handily.
I’m such a sore loser that Brent was legitimately scared to tell me the results. I put on a brave face, knowing I could cry into my pillow later. (Just kidding. Mostly.)
Please leave a comment below telling Brent you like his hair like this, so I can convince him to do it that way more often. (No need to comment on my hair though…It was windy?)
One of the highlights of the trip (for Brent) was driving around in a golf cart.
I know Mason doesn’t look very impressed, but HE WAS.
One of the highlights of the trip (for me) was Mom’s fruit kabobs.
One of the highlights of the trip (for Mason) was this stack of coolers on the deck.
We came home last night absolutely exhausted. I unveiled Brent’s Father’s Day gift (a meat thermometer for grilling with a remote control that announces when the meat’s cooked to the right temperature) and we indulged in some Father’s Day DQ blizzards.
Mason was in bed before 6 PM and didn’t make a peep until 7:30 AM this morning. Ha! (Before you get too jealous, this had more to do with the HORRIFIC night of sleep he got the night before, not exhaustion from a busy weekend. Let’s just say we paid our dues.)
What’d you do this weekend?
