Weekend Reads

by Kim on December 8, 2012

Hey there! Happy weekend. Anything fun going on?

We’re expecting snowy, slushy nastiness in the next few days, so I’m anticipating some hunkering down over here. I have a ton of writing projects to work on, and we need to finish our Christmas shopping (mostly online, of course-I can’t even imagine Christmas shopping without the internet anymore!).

But first, I wanted to stop in and share some weekend reads with you.

weekend reads

–Lindsay talks about some What Ifs.

–Tina reminds us that we’re blessed, not busy.

–If I ever have a baby girl, I want her room to look like this.

–This is a great idea for any marriage.

–Here are 25 pieces of required reading for women from Huff Post.

–I love how news of Kate’s hospitalization for pregnancy-related nausea has united moms on the topic of morning sickness. Hyperemesis gravidarum is a real thing and can be totally debilitating to women.

–Are we on the verge of a blood test for autism?

–This isn’t new, but I just discovered this blog and loved this post about finding & owning what you believe in.

–How pretty is this? I just love this blog. (Kate also did a holiday DIY link party that has over 600 ideas linked on it now!)

–CNN just published an article about which milk is best. (As you know, this is a hot topic for me.)

–Love this for a gift idea: holiday cocktails!

–Have you heard about the predicted color of the year for fashion in 2013?

Unrelated side topic: have you seen the movie Moonrise Kingdom? What did you think? We just saw it last night and it was…weird. But it got excellent reviews, so we’re thinking we must have missed something. Or we’re just cinematically illiterate. (Probably both.)

Have a great weekend!

Love this list! A few thoughts….
1) Sigh, I love your blog.
2) I wish we lived in the same city. I’m pretty sure we are destined to become “Wrinkles”, you and me ;)
3) I’m disappointed that nothing about educating yourself about pregnancy and childbirth made it onto the “required reading for women” list. (#ofcourseiwouldsaythat) and also disappointed that several of the articles are about the word “fat” and self image. Isn’t that kind of one of those “the more you make an issue out of it, the more it becomes an issue” kind of things…?
4) How many blogs do you FOLLOW girl?! I barely have time to read one! (yours)
5) If you happen to have room for one more blog to follow, check out “The Gypsy Mama” – love her.

Hi Jess!
1) Thank you!
2) Duh, agreed. :)
3) Fair, but this was HuffPost Women–there’s also a HuffPost Parents, so maybe they redirect some of their mommy stuff over there. As for the “fat” articles–I’d argue that most of them were not just about the everyday self image issues we all deal with, but about obesity, which is a legitimate national problem. Clearly, we don’t have a clue how to handle that as a society, but I don’t think ignoring it is the answer either. There was also that article about the woman whose daughter called another girl fat…but I remember being like “oofda, what WOULD I say??”
4) A bajillion! I use Google Reader, and it always, always, always says “1000+ unread items.” It stresses me out sometimes just looking at it, but I don’t want to miss anything! I do a lot of skimming. :)
5) Thanks!
