Weekend Reads

by Kim on February 2, 2013

From what we can tell so far, Mason doesn’t seem to have gotten much from me in terms of genetics. He is about 125% his dad’s son.

Physically, he is a perfect clone of Brent. He also has the same laid-back personality, low tolerance for shopping and road trips, and obsession with electronics (especially computers, remote controls, video game controllers, and cords of any kind).

However, I finally detected ONE teeny little obscure trait that’s all mom.

Kid LOVES books.

Not only will he sit on my lap for long periods of time (in baby terms: 5+ minutes) while I read to him, but he also kills gobs of time digging his book collection out of the entertainment center in our living room, one book at a time, and then rolling around in it.

Of course I’m all, he’s playing with BOOKS. Clearly he LOVES BOOKS. WHERE’S THE CAMERA!?!

So, I decided it was only fitting to have him introduce this week’s weekend reads.

Weekend Reads - Mase Edition

I haven’t shared any reads for a couple Saturdays now, but it was definitely NOT because I didn’t have any to share. Oh, no.

I was just busy. But now, I’m going to unleash the backlog. Oh, yes.

Which means some of these links are a few weeks old by now. I realize that, in internet terms, that’s like months, so bear with me while I clean out my queue.

–Ali wrote a really interesting post about how we, as readers, need to take responsibility for the blogs we’re reading. If they make us feel like crap, we should stop judging the authors and just stop reading the blogs. Er…duh, I knew that.

–Cheers to Tina for recognizing when enough is enough in life. I also really want to watch the sermon from her church that she linked.

–Ugghhh, I had my mind all made up about not buying a running stroller, but now Caitlin has me waffling again. Maybe Mase would do better with it this summer, now that he’s bigger.

–You don’t have to bust out 9 mph on an incline to feel like you’re working it on the treadmill. Check out Fitnessista’s walking workout.

–What does clean eating technically mean? Katie explains.

–How about intuitive eating?? A couple tips from (another) Katie.

Worst fitness advice ever. I can’t stop laughing about this. “Today is left glute day!”

Caitlin and Emily both did awesome, awesome posts about weekly meal prep.

–I liked this post about becoming the hero in your own life. (I can’t decide whether that’s because it reminded me of the restaurant scene in The Holiday…)

–Anyone who’s ever considered doing a wall gallery needs to tuck this post away. By the time I get around to doing this, it probably won’t be in style anymore…story of my life.

–Gretchen talks about how the presence of mirrors can make us behave better.

–Juicing is hot right now. Bess and Badger Girl know what I’m talking about. I wonder if I could juice in my Ninja?

–If I did start juicing, I’d start with these recipes.

–If you’re having one of those “ughhh I suck at everythingggg” days, just breathe. You’re fine.

Ok. I guess that wasn’t so bad.

Have a great weekend!

Kim

Heya i’m for the first time here. I found this board and I to find It truly useful
& it helped me out a lot. I’m hoping to give something
back and aid others such as you aided me.

My little guy has been loving books lately too! He picks one out, slowly backs up and then plops in my lap so I can read it to him! Unfortunately his attention span usually only allows for 75% of the book to be read before he hops up to get another one. So fun though. Oh, we have that same Little Blue Truck book. Have a great rest of the weekend.

My son also loves books! He will sit for hours in his room “reading” his books if he could. The other day I was getting ready and I could here him in there reading Goodnight Moon. He was saying, “night night moon, night night mouse…” Too cute! So much better for them to be obsessed with books than TV and video games :-)

The pictures of Mason and the books are adorable! Thanks for sharing this, I haven’t read some of these blogs and it was interesting to get to see some new and thoughtful posts. I especially like your first link! If reading something someone says/does is making you feel bad about yourself of course you should stop!

You’d think it would be obvious, right?? But I know what Ali means, sometimes you just get stuck reading certain blogs and forget that you can move on! Thanks for stopping by, Nicole!
