Winter Bucket List

by Kim on November 9, 2012

Hi friends,

Like I mentioned earlier this week, I think I’m starting to warm up to winter. (har har) I’m not dreading it nearly as much as I used to-probably (largely) due to the fact that I no longer have to: a) walk to school in it, or b) drive to work in the dark every morning in a freezing cold car.

Oh, and I’m so thankful that we have a garage. Scraping ice off a car has to be one of the most soul-sucking activities on this earth.

I would rather do so many other horrible, horrible things.

Although I’m excited about my first winter as a stay-at-home momma, I’m also a little nervous about cabin fever. Being home with a baby all day in the summer is one thing, but being trapped inside the same four walls all winter? Eesh.

One thing I’d like to do, to make sure we’re getting at least some time out of the house, is to start taking Mason to the gym with me. (There’s a free childcare room at our gym.) I haven’t done this yet, probably because I’m an overprotective freak of a mom (I know, who turns down free babysitting?), but I’m sure it would be great for us. Not only would I obviously love the workout freedom, but I think he’d benefit from the interaction with other adults and babies. My “plan” was to wait until he could crawl, so he’d be somewhat independent in there…at this point, I think we’re weeks or even days away from that happening.

The other thing I did was create a Winter Bucket List.

I tried to do a mix of quick/easy and more involved things, and to stay away from things I would probably do anyway, like bake Christmas cookies, make something in the crockpot, and introduce Mason to the snow. (To be fair, there’s a very good chance I’d watch old-school Rudolph anyway…) At first, I had “read a book by the fire” on there, but then I realized that was kind of like “brush teeth.”

Oh, there will be fires. And books. And blankets worn as capes.

The only ones I’m kind of concerned about actually getting done are the snowboarding and aquarium trips, but I figured I’d throw them on there and hope for the best. I’ve been wanting to try snowboarding for years, and hubby and I are always talking about the aquarium.

What’s on your winter bucket list?

P.S. The Fitnessista is hosting a sweets auction today to raise money for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Check it out!

Happy Friday!
